In the last few years, there have been several infectious disease caused by virus coming from animals which affect human’s health. One of them is monkeypox. As far as I know, monkeypox is a viral disease in which monkeys and some rodents are the reservoirs of the virus. The first finding of monkeypox virus was in a laboratory in Denmark. After that, between 1996 and 1997, small pox-like disease was spreaded in west Africa but later was identified as monkeypox. The disease was found in animals body especially primates such as baboon, chimpanzees, orangutan, gorilla, and gibbon. Moreover, it was found later that a rodents like squirrel brought monkeypox virus in its body.

Monkeypox infects human at all ages, with those under 16 are more susceptible to infection. This news concerns many parents who have children under that age. A person who has contact with infected animals has high possibility to get infected. But some cases also found infection from human to human, although only a small number. Most of the case happened in small villages near tropical rain in Africa, where people easily have direct contact with animals. Although this disease infect area in Africa only, some monkeypox cases in several region in the United States occured. It was found that the source of the virus was from peole who had contact with prairie dogs.

Symptoms of monkeypox is quite similar to smallpox that you can hardly differentiate them. Victims will get headaches, fever, muscle pain, backpain, and swollen lymph nodes. Thwy will also feel incredibly tired. In one to three days after getting fever, rash starts to appear on the skin surface, usually first on the face. Moreover, there is a bump on th rash. However, we do not need to worry much because there is a vaccine to this disease. But until now, there is no effective medicine to cure monkeypox. It is suggested that after you get in contact with victims of monkeypox, you should immediately get a vaccine injected to your body.
